This article doesn’t surprise me. I recently reported a case to my director of a wonderful six year-old boy that had recently stopped smiling all together, was unresponsive and would often react with excessive anger. I’m not sure what I expected to hear but the response I received was a half-smile and “Thanks for letting me know. I’ll tell the next teacher so he’ll know he has to handle him differently.” Huh?

I’ve heard many cases from schools throughout Taiwan of reported abuse that was quickly ignored by the supervisors. But, that is hearsay.  As A says, it’s not my place to make sweeping statements about the rate of child abuse or neglect of children in this country based on one child and one ignorant supervisor. I agree. However, I felt I should share my experience.
