I name call Benson. I am inside Pi class middle of a student.

—Excerpt from the introduction to a 6 paragraph story by one of my Taiwanese third graders. The school requires that all students in 3-5 grade complete a speech, memorize it and present it in front of the entire student body. The teachers are responsible for making sure the speeches are charming and descriptive, and generally don’t suck. The sentence above is the first of many. I bounce between cry-laughing and cry-crying.
